I thought I was onto something when I realised how hot my laptop was getting during play (and only on XCOM2). Sometimes - rare, but one happened this morning - it crashes during a cinematic. Sometimes it happens on the ship, when I exit Research/Engineering/Geoscape back to the main screen. Other times it happens during missions, at the end of my turn/start of the alien turn, or when I take an action, or tell a soldier to walk somewhere. This morning one happened when I tried to bring up the save menu, having ran through the same sequence of base upgrades for the third time following two previous crashes. Sometimes the game would crash, and I'd have the option of sending a report to the makers. After every attempt, the game would start, I'd play for a few minutes, maybe half an hour, then it would crash. Any solution I could find online to 'XCom2 crash', I'm pretty sure I've tried.

Reinstalled again, because why not at that point? I've tried everything in the OP of. I turned the graphics down to minimum settings.

I tried playing with mods installed but not enabled. The game still wouldn't play without crashing, but the PVF message was gone. I tried disabling some of the mods, I tried disabling all of the mods. Now, I had a load of (mostly) cosmetic mods installed for skins, helmets, voices and so on, but also a couple of things like EvacAll etc. Came back to the game about a month back, decided I wanted to complete that campaign and start over.Д®very time I tried to play, I got hit with a crash with the 'pure virtual function' message. Then other stuff took over and I didn't play for a while.

On my last playthrough I had every country, I had radio relays all over the place, I'd researched everything, was wasting supplies in the Proving Ground to see if anything new came up, but just really kicking my heels before tackling the final mission as I wanted to send in 3 fully trained Psionic soldiers on the first part of the mission, and had one last guy to get the full spread of powers for. I've never rushed through a game, although it's certainly possible. I've played through 2 a few times, getting to various points and stopping for whatever reasons. So I want you to understand that I speak from a position not of blind hatred, but sheer exasperated disappointment. When 2 was released, it was pretty much everything I could possibly have wanted. I devoured XCOM, and gladly went back for second helping with EW. I've played the original UFO:EU countless times since buying it over 20 years back. Still crashing, makes the game unplayable, so despite my deep and abiding love for XCom in general and this game in particular, I'm giving up.

Tried software and hardware solutions, uninstalled all mods and DLC, reinstalled the game. TL DR - Took a break for a while, came back, game crashes constantly and unpredictably seemingly no matter what I do.
